Board Recruitment 2021

RaBIT is excited to announce that we are recruiting for a new Chairperson or Co-Chairpersons as well as three new members of our Board of Directors.

We know that there is more enthusiasm for ranked ballots and voting reform in Toronto now than there has ever been before and we believe that it is the right time to renew our leadership team with new and diverse voices who can help us ensure that Toronto stays on track to adopt ranked ballots for the 2026 election.

The new Chairperson(s) and Board members will reinforce an already strong Board of Directors and join a growing network of volunteers and supporters. RaBIT’s current chair, who is taking a step back as his family responsibilities grow, will remain involved and able to provide institutional memory as a member of the Board. Job postings for both the (Co-)Chairperson and the Director positions are now available on our website.

In brief, the Chairperson(s) and members of the Board are RaBIT's key strategic key decision-makers, but they also form the core of our volunteer team. Indeed, as an organization that has no paid staff and relies completely on volunteer labour, the Board is the beating heart of RaBIT’s work. Because RaBIT’s Board is much more of a working or operational Board than is the case for many other groups, we want to go out of our way to encourage people who may not see themselves as typical members of a traditional Board of Directors to apply for these positions. Certainly, all members of our Board contribute to our strategic decision-making as part of our governance structure, but they also run our social media campaigns, organize meet-ups and community picnics, help with door knocking, plan our fundraisers, act as media spokespeople and advocate with politicians at City Hall and Queen’s Park.

So, if you have the passion and the time to commit to helping win voting reform and better politics for Toronto, we want to hear from you. And we are especially keen to hear from you if you are a member of an equity-seeking group or don’t live downtown. We know that our movement will only succeed if it draws on support from all of the communities that make our city such a great place to live and we want to ensure that we are building an organization that is as representative as possible.

Alternatively, if you know someone who you think would be a good fit, please share this webpage with them and encourage them to apply. (And if they haven't been involved in the campaign previously, feel free to share our handy "Introduction to Ranked Ballots" document with them as well!)

We will be accepting applications until the end of March 2021. To apply, please send a cover letter (2 pages max) and a CV (also 2 pages max) to [email protected] and put “RaBIT Board Application” in the subject line. Once the application period closes, we will contact all applicants to let them know if their application will move on to the interview stage of the process. You can also contact [email protected] if you have any questions about the process.
