On 25 and 26 November, 2023, members of the Ontario Liberal Party will mark their ballots to decide who will lead their party. They will be using a ranked ballot to allow voters to share their first, second, third and fourth choices for party leader.
To help these voters make their decision, RaBIT wants them to know which candidates support restoring local choice and allowing Ontario's municipalities to use ranked ballots for their own elections if they so choose.
We've asked all 4 candidates for party leader whether they support restoring local choice. Here are their positions:
Bonnie Crombie has committed to restoring local choice and allowing municipalities to use ranked ballots.
Nate Erskine-Smith has committed to restoring local choice and allowing municipalities to use ranked ballots.
Ted Hsu has committed to restoring local choice and allowing municipalities to use ranked ballots.
Yasir Naqvi has committed via email to restoring local choice and allowing municipalities to use ranked ballots.
With this unanimous commitment from all four aspiring leaders we now look forward to seeing the restoration of local choice feature prominently in the Liberal Party’s platform in the next provincial election campaign.
Thank you to all four candidates and best of luck in the upcoming vote.
