Residents of Scarborough Southwest are returning to the polls to mark their ballots on 30 November, 2023, in a Toronto City Council by-election. To help voters make their decision, RaBIT wants them to know which candidates support using ranked ballots for Toronto’s elections in the future.
While we can’t use them right now, we want Toronto City Council to be ready to implement ranked ballots for our elections as soon as it’s possible again, which means we need to elect leaders who will be ready to make this change happen.
We asked all candidates for mayor to take the following pledge:
“As a candidate in the 2023 Scarborough Southwest Toronto City Council by-election, I pledge that, if elected, I will support and work to restore Toronto's ability to use ranked ballots. Once it is again possible, I pledge to vote in favour of Toronto using ranked ballots for its elections.”
So far, 3 candidates have taken the pledge. To see which ones, click the link above for a candidate-by-candidate list, as well as information about candidates' previous support for ranked ballots.
