It’s provincial election campaign time again in Ontario, and we’re running our candidate pledge drive!

In 2022 we ran our candidate pledge campaign across the province for the first time, and had such a successful response that we’re doing it again. 

And guess what, we’ve just started and we already have 21 pledge takers!

What is the RaBIT candidate pledge? We reach out to candidates across the province to ask them to state their support to restore local choice to municipalities (to allow them to use ranked ballots if they want), and to pledge to take action if elected to government. 

Here’s the text of the pledge: 

"As a candidate in the 2025 Ontario Provincial Election, I pledge that, if elected, I will support, advance, and vote in favour of those actions required for Ontario municipalities to have the option of using ranked ballots for their municipal elections."

Getting candidates across the province to take the pledge is important for a few reasons. One is that we want to make them aware that restoring local choice to municipalities is still an important issue. Two, we want voters to know where their candidates stand on this issue so they can decide who they want to vote for. And three, we want them to bring back local choice if they get elected!

Here’s the part where we ask for your help:

1. Visit our webpage to see if your local candidate has taken the pledge yet
2. If they haven’t, email them to ask them to respond to us (they’ll most likely have an email in their inbox from us already!) or message them on social media
3. Follow along with our pledge campaign on social media and engage with our posts to help us amplify our message

Help us make some noise this election campaign to make it clear that Ontario voters want the right to choose voting reform: the right to have local elections where our leaders have a clear mandate from a true majority of voters. 

Election day is coming up fast – advance voting is this weekend and E-day is next Thursday, February 27! – but we still have plenty of time to make our voices heard. Remember to tell your candidates to #RestoreLocalChoice!
