"I strongly support giving municipalities the option to use ranked ballots because they empower voters and promote more democratic outcomes. Ranked ballots ensure greater voter choice, reduce strategic voting, and help elect candidates with broad community support. They encourage more civil campaigns and diverse representation by giving every vote more weight. The Green Party has long advocated for electoral reform, and we believe communities should be able to choose the voting system that best reflects their needs. Ranked ballots create stronger, more accountable leadership, which is what Brantford-Brant—and all municipalities—deserve."

"There are so many good reasons to support ranked ballots. It gives each vote more weight, which might bring some people back to the ballot box. Plus it allows for a better representation of the people's wishes in parliament. And interestingly enough, the parties that don't support it in our federal and provincial elections actually use ranked ballots when voting internally for their own leaders."

"Ranked balloting is perhaps the best way to get definitive results while ensuring that voters get the choice that most reflects their views. I also believe that it leads to more cooperation and community minded thinking. In addition to supporting ranked ballots for municipalities, Our party also commits to a citizens assembly to propose recommendations for electoral reform at the provincial level."

"I believe it's time we tried a different way to vote and there's no better way than to start with municipalities where people are voting directly for a candidate and it is not confused with party affiliations. There is an activation energy required to direct change, and administratively it is a burden to try something new with the immense amount of workload involved to implement a new system and ensuring it is communicated effectively. However, the work that has already been accomplished by RaBIT in Toronto (and Fair Vote Canada) to explain these systems has been great, and I think that the change to ranked ballots municipally will actually increase voter turnout. People will be intrigued by something new, a change in the system. There will be curiosity with the choices, motivation to really get to know the candidates, and a chance to share their voice on more than just one candidacy."

"In a time of such division in our politics, we need to find ways to encourage people to participate in our democratic process. Ranked ballots are one way to do this, by giving voters more of a choice in who they vote for in a given election. In my municipality, voter turnout in the last municipal election was 28%. There is no world where that is alright and we need to look to different ways to increase that. Municipalities in Ontario were able to experiment with ranked ballots before. They should be able to continue to explore them going forward."
